Social media is rapidly becoming one of the most talked about and most used formats of communication, outreach, and marketing, and libraries are jumping on the social media bandwagon. All types of libraries should be able to make use of social media to attract new users, to provide outreach, and to market resources, services, and events. However, social media is relatively new to libraries and many of us struggle with the best ways to implement these tools. Come learn how the Queen Elizabeth II Library at Memorial University has adopted and leveraged social media to do just that. The QEII Library is in the process of implementing a social media strategic plan which will consider numerous areas including the best ways to provide outreach to your users, promote your events, and how to manage multiple accounts across the varying types of social media (facebook, twitter, flickr, pinterest, vine, goodreads and more). Whether you’re a social media expert or just starting accounts at your library, you’ll pick up tips to help you embrace and succeed with social media at your library.
