In 2012 the Fredericton Public Library undertook a one-year pilot to enhance the services it provided to local business and budding entrepreneurs. The goal was to contribute to local economic development in a meaningful way, beyond buzz-words and vague aspirations.
Find out how we:
-Organized a student business plan competition
-Connected with change makers in the local business community
-Delivered business seminars led by experts, not offered anywhere else
-Built library collections to address real-world business development needs
-Trained a library staff to become savvy with business research and outreach
Though we had the advantage of in-house librarian business knowledge and experience, we learned that with an entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to learn new skills, any public library can add value to the local business community. Session attendees will leave with an understanding of our journey, the successes and challenges we faced, and how to implement a plan that works for business.
